News Reading of Only Children Musical, Inspired By Spring Awakening, Set for Jan. 9 A reading of a new musical entitled Only Children will be presented to industry folk Jan. 9 at the Frederick Loewe Theater at New York University.

The 2 PM reading is part of the Frederick Loewe Alumni Reading Series and will feature the talents of Blake Whyte, Cassandra Kubinski, Tituss Burgess, Katherine McClain, Jasmin Walker, Lucas Papaelias, John Andrew Morrison, Ben Howes, Julie Dingman-Evans and Sally Wilfert. Emma Griffin directs with musical direction by Jana Zielonka. Only Children features lyrics by Michael R. Jackson, an alumni of the NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, and music by Rachel Peters.

The musical, according to press notes, is "an examination of the sexual coming of age of contemporary American teenagers [and] was inspired by a 2003 Frank Rich op-ed column that examined what he termed America's obsession with 'pedophilic chic'; a Newsweek article written the same year exposing the phenomenon of well-to-do suburban girls from good homes turning tricks with older men for designer clothes and jewelry at the Mall of America in Minnesota; and Frank Wedekind's 1891 play about repression in a small German town, Spring Awakening."

The Frederick Loewe Theater is located at 721 Broadway, between Washington Place and Waverly Place, in the 2nd floor Black Box.
