News Readings of Beaty's Resurrection Offered at Hartford Stage Jan. 20-21 Hartford Stage presents two sold-out staged readings of Daniel Beaty's new play, Resurrection, Jan. 20 and 21.

Oz Scott directs the "unique blend of music, poetry, dance, comedy, and drama," as show notes describe, for the Connecticut company. Music is composed by Daniel Bernard Roumain.

Hartford added a Jan. 20 reading following the announcement of the Jan. 21 event, and both 7:30 PM readings will play to capacity audiences, including standing room, according to a spokesperson. (The waiting list has been closed.)

"Resurrection is the story of six interconnected black men: a child scientist, a young man from the projects on his way to college, an ex-convict, a corporate executive, a health food store owner, and the Bishop of a mega-church, all of whom experience an unexpected phenomenon on the same evening that changes each of their lives forever," according to a press statement.

Obie Award-winning playwright Daniel Beaty was recently named the Aetna American Voices Playwright-in-Residence at Hartford Stage for the 2007-2008 season. Resurrection, expected to be presented in the fall of 2008, is being workshopped as part of that residency. His Emergence-SEE! played as the centerpiece of the Brand:NEW Fall Festival of New Work Nov. 4, 2007.

Resurrection will play at Hartford Stage, 50 Church Street in downtown Hartford, CT. For more information visit hartfordstage.org.
