The Dublin-born star is in final negotiations, according to the trade mag, to appear opposite Jason O'Mara ("The Agency," "Band of Brothers") and previously announced cast members Lenny Clarke ("Rescue Me," "The Job") and Rachelle Lefevre ("Confessions of a Dangerous Mind," "What About Brian").

The show, which is based on the BBC series of the same name, finds a detective who, by way of a car accident, is mysteriously sent back to the 1970s.

Thomas Schlamme directs the project from the pen of Kelley ("Ally McBeal," "The Practice") and Stu Moss.

Meaney — who was seen on stage as Phil Hogan opposite Kevin Spacey and Eve Best in the Broadway revival of Eugene O'Neill's A Moon for the Misbegotten — would play the gruff and funny homicide unit leader who clashes with the protagonist.

The actor also appeared on Broadway in 1987's Breaking the Code but is best known for his work on film in "Layer Cake," "Con Air," "The Van" and his role on television's "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." He also appeared in the film "Mystery, Alaska" — which was penned by Kelley.
