The deal unites Matt Weaver with fellow Rock of Ages producers Ryan Kavanaugh and Happy Walters, who run Relativity Media. Weaver also produced the film adaptation of the hit musical, which was released earlier this year.
Weaver's role will primarily focus on new stage works, with a potential to develop film, television and digital projects.
Weaver was previously reported to be considering a stage musical based on his own childhood and being raised by an openly gay father.
"I am beyond thrilled to be working with my good friends Happy, Tucker and Ryan at Relativity," Weaver said in a statement. "They have created an innovative work environment and we have been collaborating and pooling creative ideas since the moment I arrived at the office. I am really looking forward to our future in this partnership."
Among Relativity's films are "The Raven," "Mirror Mirror," "Bridesmaids," "Little Fockers," "The Fighter," "The Social Network" and "It's Complicated."
