MCC Theater celebrates the opening of JC Lee’s Relevance February 25. The new drama, which is currently making its world premiere at the Lucille Lortel Theatre Off-Broadway, looks at the clashing ideals of two generations of feminists.

Tony nominee Liesl Tommy directs a cast led by Tony winner Jayne Houdyshell and Tony nominee Pascale Armand. Completing the cast are Molly Camp (The Heiress) and Emmy Award nominee Richard Masur (Transparent, Orange Is the New Black).

Relevance began previews February 2 and is scheduled to play through March 11.

The play follows the unraveling conflict between an older feminist author (Houdyshell) and a promising young writer (Tony nominee Armand), who is quickly becoming the leading cultural critic on race, class, and gender for a new generation. When a heated exchange between the two women goes viral, one of the women finds herself ill-equipped to manage her message in the social media era.

The production features scenic design by Tony winner Clint Ramos, costume design by Jacob A. Climer, lighting design by Jiyoun Chang, sound design by Broken Chord, projection design by Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, and casting by Telsey + Company/Adam Caldwell, CSA, William Cantler, CSA, Karyn Casl, CSA. The production stage manager is Alex H. Hajjar, and the stage manager is Ayisha Hunt.
