Classic Arts News Ren_e Fleming and Stephen Sondheim to Appear at Julliard Symposium on the Arts Soprano Ren_e Fleming and composer Stephen Sondheim are among the participants in a symposium at the Juilliard School on September 22.
The symposium, titled "American Society and the Arts," will also include appearances by historian David McCullough and Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia. Juilliard president Joseph W. Polisi is the moderator.

McCullough will speak on the role of the arts in American history; Scalia will discuss the relationship between the law and the arts. Fleming, Sondheim, and Polisi will discuss the fate of artistic works that do not have broad commercial appeal.

The event begins at 1:30 p.m. A limited number of tickets are available from the Juilliard box office.
