Classic Arts News Ren_ Pape Sings First Boris in Berlin Bass Ren_ Pape will sing the title role of Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov for the first time tonight at the Berlin State Opera.
The performance also marks the first-ever Russian role for the German native.

Pape appears in a new production directed by the rising young Russian theater director Dmitri Chernyakov; Daniel Barenboim conducts. The production runs through December 30.

Pape has made a series of role debuts at the Berlin State Opera, singing, among other roles, his first King Marke in Tristan und Isolde, Sarastro in Die Zauberfl‹te, Rocco in Fidelio, and King Henry in Lohengrin there.
