Classic Arts Features Ren_ Pape Withdraws from Met Anniversary Gala Ren_ Pape has withdrawn from the Met's 125th Anniversary Gala on Sunday, March 15, due to illness. John Tomlinson and James Morris will step into the two pieces he was scheduled to perform.


In a bit of last-minute shuffling, John Tomlinson will sing the Death Scene from Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, replacing Pape.

James Morris will sing Wotan in the final scene of Wagner's Das Rheingold, replacing Pape.

John Relyea will sing "Le veau d'or" from Gounod's Faust, replacing Morris.

The 125th Anniversary Gala conducted by James Levine begins at 6:00 pm and will be broadcast live on the Metropolitan Opera Radio Sirius channel 78 and XM channel 79.
