DALLAS -- A good cause and good theater join forces this evening in Dallas: the Feb. 5 opening of the national tour of Rent is a gala benefit for AIDS Arms, the centralized case management agency for people with HIV/AIDS in Dallas.
Among other themes, AIDS -- living with and dying by it -- is central to Jonathan Larson's Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winner, a musical inspired by Puccini's La Boheme.
Though tickets are still available for the troupe's month-long Dallas booking, tonight's opening is sold out.
The gala was a year in the making. Corporate sponsors include Neiman Marcus, Infiniti, and Smirnoff Black, upscale brands the down-but-not-out characters in Rent might or might not aspire to.
Rent plays in Dallas at the Majestic Theatre Feb. 5 - March 1. For tickets, $31 - $56, call (214) 373-8000
