News "Rent" Stars Martin and Thoms Featured in Film of Stageplay "Peter and Vandy" "Rent" film co-stars Jesse L. Martin and Tracie Thoms as well as stage and screen vets Jason Ritter and Jess Weixler have been cast in the forthcoming play-based film "Peter and Vandy," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jay DiPietro adapted his stage work Peter and Vandy for the upcoming film and will direct for Cook Street Productions. Filming will take place in Manhattan and Brooklyn, the trade magazine reports.

Ritter and Weixler will take on the title roles in the romantic comedy, which follows the love story of a young New York couple in a non-chronological format. Martin and Thoms will play friends.

All four leads have been seen on stage and screen: Ritter (Third, "The Class," "Happy Endings"), Weixler (Stay, "Teeth"), Martin (Rent, "Law & Order," the forthcoming "Sexual Healing") and Thoms (Drowning Crow, "Cold Case," "Grindhouse: Death Proof").

DiPietro appeared in and directed his play in 2002 at the Paradise Theater. The play, which also featured Monique Vukovic, earned a Drama Desk Award nomination.

Peter Sterling and Austin Stark will produce the film with Matt Parker and Carly Hugo as co-producers.
