News Rent's Angel to Star in Zanna, Don't! at the Houseman Jai Rodriguez, who currently plays Angel in the Broadway company of Rent, will head the cast of Zanna, Don't! when it reopens at the John Houseman Theatre in March.

The pop musical fairy tale about Zanna, a fashionably hip matchmaking teen with super powers, opened to positive reviews this past October at the Rodney Kirk Theatre on Theatre Row. Featuring a book and a score by Tim Acito, the musical will begin performances at the Houseman on March 4, 2003, prior to an official opening on March 20. Additional casting is still in progress according to the show's spokesperson. The musical, whose full title is Zanna, Don't! A Musical Fairy Tale, is set in a magical high school where relationships are reversed — the universe is gay instead of straight (two same-sex relationships are the center of the show). Devanand Janki directed and choreographed the Theatre Row run, which featured additional book and lyrics by Alexander Dinelaris.

Jai Rodriguez starred in the Canadian production of Rent, Lincoln Center's Spinning Into Butter and the White Barn Theatre's mounting of Sad Hotel. He recently completed filming "The New Guy" for Columbia Pictures, and he has also appeared on the ABC serial "All My Children."
