News Revised High, With Kathleen Turner, Arrives at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park Sept. 4 Matthew Lombardo's three-person drama High, starring Tony and Academy Award-nominated actress Kathleen Turner, begins performances at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park Sept. 4.

The production arrives in Cincinnati with fresh rewrites since its world-premiere engagement at Hartford TheatreWorks earlier this summer. High will officially open Sept. 9 and run through Oct. 2.

Following its Cincinnati run, High will play the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (Oct. 13-Nov. 7) and is eyeing a 2011 Broadway bow. An official announcement of a Broadway run has not been made.

Playwright Lombardo, who was recently represented on Broadway with Looped, developed the play for Turner. She plays Sister Jamison Connelly, a nun whose faith is tested when she takes in a young man struggling with addiction.

Rob Ruggiero, who also staged Looped, directs High, which also features newcomer Evan Jonigkeit as the young addict, with Tony nominee Michael Berresse ([title of show], A Chorus Line) as Connelly's colleague, Father Michael Delpapp.

"My greatest passion is developing new work in regional theaters around the country," Lombardo said in a statement to Playbill.com. "We learn a little bit more about the play at each venue. With High I have been specifically concentrating on deepening the relationships between the characters and clarifying the overall story arc." Ruggiero added, "Having nearly half a year for the actors to embody and breathe these characters, gives us the opportunity to further explore who these people are in relationship to themselves and one another." According to press notes, "When Sister Jamison Connelly (Turner) agrees to sponsor a nineteen year-old drug-user in an effort to help him combat his addiction, her own faith is ultimately tested. Struggling between the knowledge she possesses as a rehabilitation counselor and a woman of religious conviction, she begins to question the belief in miracles and whether people can find the courage to change. High explores the universal themes of truth, forgiveness, redemption and human fallibility."

The design team includes Tony Award winner David Gallo (scenic design), Tony Award winner Jess Goldstein (costume design), John Lasiter (lighting design) and Vincent Oliveri (sound design).

Lombardo's Tallulah Bankhead-inspired work Looped played a brief Broadway engagement this season with Valerie Harper as the iconic actress. His plays also include the Katharine Hepburn bio-play Tea at Five.
