News Revised Production of Rags Begins Florida Run Feb. 20 A revised production of Rags, the short-lived 1986 Broadway musical about the immigrant experience in America at the turn of the century, begins performances Feb. 20 at the Plaza Theatre in Manalapan, FL.

In a new adaptation by Richard Sabellico, who also staged the 1991 Off-Broadway revisal, Rags will continue through March 16. The musical has music by Tony winner Charles Strouse (Annie, Bye Bye Birdie), lyrics by Oscar winner Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Wicked) and a book by late Tony Award winner Joseph Stein (Fiddler on the Roof, Zorba).

The Plaza Theatre production is directed by Andy Rogow and Kevin Black, with musical direction by Mark Galsky and musical staging by Black.

The cast includes Melissa Boher Jacobson as Rebecca, Larry Bramble as Avram, Sheira Feuerstein as Bella, Michael Westrich as Ben, Randy Charleville as Nathan, Michael Cichewicz as Saul, Gail Byer as Rachel, Eli Jacobson as David and Troy Stanley as Big Tim.

The ensemble features Cory Gawlikowski, Margo Gellert, Eva Gluck, John Lariviere, Abigail Perkins and Aiden Renda.

The production has scenic design by Michael McClain, lighting design by Preston Bircher, sound design by Kevin Black and costume design by Peter Lovello. Stand-outs from the score include "Children of the Wind," "Brand New World," "Yankee Boy," "Blame It On the Summer Night," "Dancing With the Fools" and the title song.  Rags played 22 performances on Broadway in the summer of 1986 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre. It earned seven Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score.
