Revue of Shuffle Along Composer's Songs Gets Timely CD Release | Playbill

News Revue of Shuffle Along Composer's Songs Gets Timely CD Release The 1978 revue Eubie! celebrates the work of Eubie Blake.

Just in time for the planned Broadway production of Shuffle Along, Or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed— featuring the songs of Eubie Blake—the Kritzerland record label is releasing the orignial cast album of the 1978 revue of Blake's songs, Eubie!, on CD.

It's one of a small of number of classic Broadway cast albums that never previously had a CD release.

The songs in Eubie! have lyrics by Noble Sissle, Andy Razaf, F.E. Miller, Jim Europe and Micki Grant.

Kritzerland's Bruce Kimmel has been teasing the release of an important cast album on social media for the past several weeks.

Eubie! was conceived and directed by Julianne Boyd, with choreography by Billy Wilson and Henry LeTang. The cast included the Hines brothers, Gregory and Maurice, Alaina Reed, Lynnie Godfrey, Terry Burrell and others. The show was nominated for three Tony Awards: Gregory Hines for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical, Billy Wilson and Henry LeTang for Best Choreography, and Best Original Score (because Tony rules in those days said material that had not previously been eligible for a Tony nomination could be nominated). Most of the songs in Eubie! predated the first Tonys in 1946.

Eubie! was mastered from the original master tapes from the Warner Bros./Rhino vaults. Only 1,000 copies have been pressed and are being sold for $19.98, plus shipping. The CD is scheduled to ship the second week in April and can be ordered at Kritzerland.com.
