Classic Arts News Riccardo Muti to Lead Salzburg's Pentecost Festival Conductor Riccardo Muti has been named artistic director of Salzburg's Pentecost Festival, the New York Times reports.
The announcement was made on January 28 in Salzburg, one day after Muti led an all-star concert there celebrating the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth.

Muti will lead the three-day spring event for three years starting in 2007. It will feature his Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra. According to the Times, the 2007 festival will include Cimarosa's Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra and an oratorio by Scarlatti.

The longtime music director of Milan's La Scala, Muti resigned last year under pressure from angry workers, and currently holds no major leadership posts.
