Classic Arts News Richard Jones’ New Parsifal, Anna Netrebko in La Traviata, and More Head to Paris National Opera Tony nominee and Olivier winner Jones directs a new staging of the Wagner epic as part of the 2017–2018 lineup.

The Opéra National de Paris' 2018–2018 season kicked off September 9 with the Franz Lehár opera Die Lustige Witwe (the German language The Merry Widow). The company's subsequent lineup includes 11 new productions, with several classical stars taking the stage in familiar titles.

Among the new stagings is Wagner's epic Parsifal, which will run April 27–May 23, 2018, at the Opéra Bastile. Seven-time Olivier winner Richard Jones, who earned a Tony nomination for La Bête, will direct.

Additional premiere productions include Verdi's Don Carlos, performed in French and running October 10–November 11. The cast will include Jonas Kaufmann in the title role for the first stirng of performances, as well as Sonya Yoncheva, who is set to star in the Metropolitan Opera's new production of Tosca. She is also set to headline Paris National Opera's new La Bohème.

Repertory productions on tap include La Traviata, with Anna Netrebko and Plácido Domingo, as well as Il Trovatore with Sondra Radvonovsky, who will headline the Metropolitan Opera's opening night production of Norma beginning September 25.
