In 1997, An Enemy of the People attracted great audiences at the Gavea House in Rio de Janeiro, where it remained a box office record holder, enjoying sucess with public and critic throughout its season.

Henrik Ibsen´s classic drama now returns to the Brazilian stage with the same team. A cast of Brazilian stars Paulo Betti, Antonio Grassi, Giuseppe Oristanio and Vera Farjado perform under the impeccable direction of Domingos de Oliveira. Enemy opened March 14 at The Sergio Cardoso Theatre in Sao Paulo, running through May 1998.

Norwegian dramatist Ibsen wrote An Enemy of the People in 1882. Although it deals realistically with political, ecological and philosophical problems, and it can still shock contemporary audiences.

Director Oliveira, who also adapted the script, hopes to catch the same audience numbers that the production had in Rio. After this season in Sao Paulo the play will be performed in other important Brazilian capitals like Curitiba, Porto Alegre and Sao Luiz.
