News Rita Gardner's Try to Remember Will Play Limited Engagement at NYC's Metropolitan Room Rita Gardner, known for originating the role of The Girl in the original production of the long-running Off-Broadway musical The Fantasticks, will bring her show, Try to Remember: A Look Back at Off-Broadway, to the Metropolitan Room for five nights only, beginning Sept. 9.

The concert act, directed by Barry Kleinbort, will play Sept. 9-10 at 7 PM, Sept. 16 at 9:30 PM and Sept. 17-18 at 7 PM.

Try to Remember is a look back at Gardner’s career Off-Broadway. According to press notes, "Featuring [music from] such composers as Kurt Weill, Stephen Schwartz, Jerry Herman, Marvin Hamlisch, Marc Blitzstein, Jacques Brel, and, of course, her Fantasticks’ collaborators, Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, the show brings to vivid life the dramatic and musical richness and diversity of the era."

The production features musical direction by Alex Rybeck, musical staging by Pamela Sousa, and additional dialogue by Ken Friedman.

Gardner has been seen on Broadway in A Family Affair, Pal Joey, Ben Franklin in Paris, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Ari, Morning's at Seven and The Wedding Singer. Her Off-Broadway credits include Taking My Turn, Jacques Brel, Steel Magnolias and The Cradle Will Rock, among others.
