Target sponsors the family events to coincide with the production's run in California (Nov. 11-Dec. 28).
Rita Moreno, Thacher Hurd, or Delroy Lindo will take part in three readings from classic Sendak books such as "Where the Wild Things Are" and "Really Rosie." The first coinciding event (Nov. 6) will allow families to bring the "Brundibar" picture book to life through theatre games for all ages.
"Like so many other people, I first discovered Maurice Sendak through my children," stated Berkeley Rep artistic director Tony Taccone, who stages the new show. "Their love for Sendak’s books merged happily with my own joy in discovering his singular imagination. I hope these readings can introduce more young people to his magic, while delighting parents through the superb readings presented by these three incredible artists who honor us with their presence."
Throughout the run of Brundibar, ticket-holders for the following matinees will be welcome to take part in the pre-show "Once Upon a Wild Thing: Celebrating the Works of Maurice Sendak" readings:
