Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon, recently of The Bat Theatre Company's The Guys, will host the 17th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards May 6, honoring achievement in the past year of Off-Broadway theatre.

Winners of the awards will be announced April 22, but the party is 7 PM May 6 at the famed Lucille Lortel Theatre on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village, followed by a dinner at the Bryant Park Grill in Midtown. The League of Off Broadway Theatres and Producers and The Lortel Foundation jointly sponsor the annual celebration.

Nominees were announced April 1. The eligibility cutoff date was March 31. In the 2002 Lucille Lortel Awards nominations, Urinetown and Metamorphoses—two shows born Off-Broadway but now full-fledged Broadway successes—led the pack with eight and six nods respectively.

Three special awards will be presented at the event. Elaine Stitch at Liberty will receive a trophy for Unique Theatrical Experience. The Edith Oliver Award for Sustained Excellence will go to actress Ruby Dee. And a laurel for Outstanding Body of Work will go to Second Stage Theatre, which produced in the last season Crimes of the Heart and Metamorphoses—both 2002 Lortel nominees.

In addition, playwright Edward Albee will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for "his longstanding and unique contribution to Off-Broadway" and a star bearing the name of fellow scribe Romulus Linney's name will be added to the "Playwrights Sidewalk" that lies outside the theatre. The ceremony is a gala benefit for The Actor's Fund of America. The nominations are as follows:
