Playbill.com has learned the cast will be led by Nicholas Rodriguez as Jesus, Delisco as Judas and Marie-France Arcilla as Mary Magdalene. Robert Johanson will direct and choreograph the production. Complete casting will be announced shortly. The Superstar creative team will also feature Matthew Smedal (music director), Campbell Baird (scenic designer), Greg Poplyk (costume designer), Jack Mehler (lighting designer), John A. Stone (sound designer) and Gerard Kelly (wig and hair Designer).
Nicholas Rodriguez was seen Off-Broadway in Almost Heaven as well as in the tours of Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita and Hair. Delisco, who just made his debut headlining the Las Vegas Hilton, has been seen on Broadway in Aida, Smokey Joe's Café and Ragtime. Marie-France Arcilla can currently be seen in Shout: The Mod Musical. Her other New York credits include The Ark, Sidd and Refo!.
Jesus Christ Superstar debuted on Broadway in 1971. The musical, according to press notes, dramatizes "the excitement caused by [Jesus'] message, his betrayal, his trial before Pontius Pilate, and his ultimate sacrifice." Superstar features such tunes as "Everything's Alright," "I Don't Know How to Love Him," "Gesthemane" and the title tune.
