Previews began Feb. 27 with an official opening March 16. When it closes, the two-hander will have played 64 performances and 20 previews. Directed by Scott Schwartz, Rooms co-stars Leslie Kritzer (A Catered Affair, Legally Blonde) and Doug Kreeger (Signature's The Visit, world premiere of Rooms).
Robert Sher and producing associate Brandon Wardell will produce the show's cast recording for Time Life. The recording is scheduled for May 12; a late spring release is expected.
Rooms features music and lyrics by Paul Scott Goodman and a book by Goodman and Miriam Gordon. The musical, according to press notes, "begins in 1970s Glasgow where Monica, an ambitious singer/songwriter meets Ian, a reclusive rocker. The two quickly become entangled creatively and romantically. Their music takes them first to London and ultimately to New York City, where they discover the vibrant new music scene and create an intimate partnership, their love deepening while their personalities drive them apart. A five-piece rock band accompanies these two characters as they search for the balance between ambition and happiness."
The production features scenic design by Adam Koch, costume design by Alejo Vietti, lighting design by Herrick Goldman, sound design by Jonathan Weston with musical supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Jesse Vargas. Matt Williams serves as choreographer.
Van Hill Entertainment and Red Griffin Media produce.
