News Rosenberg Spy Case Resurfaces in World Premiere, The Brother, in IL Hancock Productions will present the world premiere spy thriller, The Brother, Aug. 30-Nov. 18 at Theatre Building Chicago.

Written and directed by stage and film director John Hancock, the untold story of the Rosenberg spy case is based on the book by New York Times editor Sam Roberts.

"Following the espionage trial that led to the execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, this compelling drama focuses on Ethel's brother, David Greenglass," according to production notes. "He was the spy ring's man inside Los Alamos, where America was developing the atomic bomb."

Steppenwolf's Robert Breuler will star as Greenglass, "whose confession saved his wife from indictment but implicated his sister and her husband, and ultimately sent them to the electric chair. The Brother is a spy thriller, a painful family saga, and a cautionary tale of state power in times of fear and repression. It shows the shocking tactics of the U.S. government, led by the notorious Roy Cohn, who went on to be Senator Joe McCarthy's henchman."

Hancock Productions will stage the new work in repertory with a production of Marsha Norman's 'night, Mother, featuring Elaine Rivkin and Dorothy Tristan, and directed by John Hancock (starting previews Sept. 7 and opening Sept. 14).

The Brother opens Aug. 30 (with previews Aug. 23-26). Both plays continue in rep to Nov. 18. They are co-produced with Hancock by Shawna Tucker. Theatre Building Chicago is located at 1225 W Belmont Avenue in Chicago.
