News Rosenblat, Stern and More to Star in 27 Rue de Fleurus Musical at Urban Stages The life and words of Gertrude Stein inspired the new musical 27 Rue de Fleurus, which will begin previews at Urban Stages March 1.

Featuring book and lyrics by Ted Sod with additional lyrics and a score by Lisa Koch, 27 Rue de Fleurus is told from the point of view of Stein's companion, Alice B. Toklas.

Frances Hill directs a cast that features Sarah Chalfy, Susan Haefner (Thoroughly Modern Millie), Barbara Rosenblat (Talk Radio), Cheryl Stern (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) and Emily Zacharias (Jekyll & Hyde).

In 27 Rue de Fleurus Gertrude, according to press notes, "grows tired of Alice's lack of panache for telling her perspective of their story and attempts to hijack the play as only the author of such lines as 'sugar is not a vegetable' can. But Alice has secrets to share with the audience that silence the famously verbose Gertrude. This celebrated couple confronts each other about love, marriage, jealousy, genius and a few other delicious topics while Pablo Picasso, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Mabel Dodge, Sylvia Beach and even Jean Harlow drop by for a visit."

The creative team for 27 Rue de Fleurus includes musical director John Bell, choreographer Jessica Hayden, set designer Roman Tatarowicz, costume designer Carrie Robbins, lighting designer Raquel Davis and video designer Alex Koch.

Sod's body of work includes Stealing, The Lost Art of Conversation, Damaged Goods, The Kiss, Salon and A Rude Awakening. Koch has penned Return to Planet Lisa, Ham for the Holidays, and Two's Company, I'm a Crowd. 27 Rue de Fleurus will run through April 6 with an official opening set for March 6. Tickets are available by calling (212) 868-4444.

Urban Stages is located in Manhattan at 259 West 30th Street.
