Adrian Noble may be leaving the Royal Shakespeare Company but, in the words of the classic song, his memory will linger on.
As reported in the industry paper The Stage, RSC Chairman Lord Alexander has confirmed in a memo to his staff that Noble's plans, which went under the general heading of "The Fleet Strategy," will continue to be implemented.
Candidates for the post of Artistic Director will therefore be required to continue to implement the plans to demolish the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, for example.
It is anticipated that the search for a successor to Noble will not be too long and drawn out, as the company clearly needs to improve its morale and begin to plan for a fresh administration next spring, even if many of the policies it will be administering belong to the previous director.
