Oskar Eustis, the Public's new artistic director, is at the helm. The show will mark his directing debut at the Public. He previously directed the work at his old stomping ground, Providence's Trinity Rep, in spring 2004. Richard Masur plays Martin, Anne Scurria is Lois/Ethel, Maggie Siff is Lulu, Audra Blaser is Suzie, Marin Ireland plays Ruby/Elizabeth, Patch Darragh is Henry/Paul and Jason Butler Harner portrays Tad.

The show is rising playwright Groff's most high-profile production to date. Her previous works include Inky, Moliere Impromptu, Jimmy Carter Was a Democrat and The Five Hysterical Girls Theorem.

Ruby Sunrise is divided into two time periods. The first part is set in 1927 on the outskirts of Indianapolis, and examines the struggles of iconoclastic young tomboy Ruby as she struggles to create a prototype for television in a barn. In the next act, set 25 years later, some of the same actors from act one play characters in a television studio in Manhattan during the early days of the medium. Among the figures is Ruby's daughter, who is attempting to get her mother's story told as she feels it must be.

Ireland, playing the title role, recently starred in Sabina at Primary Stages and Far Away at New York Theatre Workshop. Masur's recent stage roles include Sarah, Sarah Off-Broadway and Democracy on Broadway. Harner has run through a slew of plays in the past year, including Hedda Gabler, Orange Flower Water and The Paris Letter.
