Featuring music by Idle's Spamalot collaborator, John Du Prez, What About Dick? will run April 26-29. The production, which will be taped for release as a concert film, will be staged as a radio play with actors reading from scripts.
Brand will star in the title role, an Oxford student pursuing philosophy and gynecology. The cast also includes Eddie Izzard (Race), Jane Leeves (Cabaret), Sophie Winkleman ("Two and a Half Men"), Tracey Ullman (The Big Love), Tim Curry (Spamalot) and comedian Billy Connolly. Du Prez will play piano, and Idle will serve as the musical's narrator.
A previous workshop version of What About Dick?, a farce set in the early 20th century, was mounted at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre in November 2007 with many of the same cast members; Brand is a new addition. The L.A. engagement features an expanded script as well as new additions to the score.
