Classic Arts News Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra to Offer Broadcast Archive Online The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra announced yesterday that its 35-year archive of concerts broadcast on Minnesota Public Radio, as well as future concerts recorded for broadcast, will be available for streaming and downloading beginning July 1.
The SPCO and the radio network have not yet decided whether the downloads will be free, a spokeswoman for the orchestra said.

A three-year media agreement approved by SPCO musicians offers audiences opportunities to listen to the SPCO through live streaming of concert broadcasts and archived concerts through the Minnesota Public Radio website. In addition, whole concerts or individual pieces from concerts will be made available for downloading or podcasting.

SPCO president and managing director Bruce Coppock said, "The musicians of the SPCO deserve lots of praise for their innovative and unswerving commitment to making it possible for a worldwide audience to regularly hear what audiences in the Twin Cities are treated to each week."

The SPCO's agreement also allows for a new series of one-hour programs to be distributed through American Public Media, MPR's national production and distribution arm. In addition, the orchestra will be able to offer annual live national and international radio broadcasts as well as broadcasts of concerts on European Broadcasting Union member stations.
