In 2001, TV's Sally Struthers ("All in the Family") returned to the Los Angeles stage playing humble housewife and Patsy Cline fan Louise Seger in Always Patsy Cline. July 9-Aug. 25, she returns to the role of Louise at Southern California's Laguna Playhouse with Christa Jackson as country singer Cline.
Famous for such songs as "Walkin' After Midnight," "I Fell to Pieces," "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "Crazy," Patsy Cline was one of country music's most beloved female performers before she died tragically in a plane crash at the age of 30. Always...Patsy Cline was created by Ted Swindley based on a biography of Cline by Ellis Nassour.
Struthers, although best known as Gloria Stivic on "All in the Family," has several theatrical credits to her name including Broadway's female Odd Couple, Tommy Tune's Grease revival, Annie and Wally's Cafe. Jackson was featured in Broadway's Grease and on tour in Smokey Joe's Cafe.
Sharon Rosen directs. She is currently working on RUMI from the writings of 13th Century Middle-Eastern philosopher Rumi, with Second City founder Paul Sills and the development of a possible Broadway revival of the musical Oh, What a Lovely War.
Tickets are $54-$48. The Laguna Playhouse is located at 606 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach. For subscription information, call (949) 497-ARTS. — By Christine Ehren
