News Sam Buntrock Will Direct Daniel Goldfarb's Extinction Method for MTC; Carl's Sister Postponed Manhattan Theatre Club will present the world premiere of Daniel Goldfarb's new play The Extinction Method, which will be directed by Tony Award nominee Sam Buntrock. Previews will begin at New York City Center-Stage I May 10 with an official opening scheduled for May 25.

Casting, creative team and ticketing information will be announced in the coming weeks.

Carl's Sister, the new play by Alfred Uhry based on the book "Apples and Oranges" by Marie Brenner, which had been previously announced for MTC’s 2010-2011 season under the direction of Lynne Meadow, has been postponed. Uhry and Meadow are continuing work on the play, and there will be a public presentation as part of MTC's Ernst C. Stiefel “7@7” Reading Series March 7 at 7 PM featuring four-time Tony Award winner Boyd Gaines in the role of Carl and Tony Award winner Julie White in the role of Marie. The reading will be held at New York City Center – Stage I.

In a statement Meadow said, “Alfred, Marie, and I are all looking forward to a one night only reading with Julie White and Boyd Gaines. We are all eager to get a public reaction to this wonderful new play as we continue to work on the piece with our eye on future production." 

"Annie and Nate have a baby who won’t sleep," according to press notes for The Extinction Method. "Claire and Luke are losing sleep over the decision to get married and start a family. In adjacent Brooklyn Heights apartments, Daniel Goldfarb’s newest and wittiest look at love, sex, commitment and parenthood unfolds and no one will rest until the truth between each of these couples is spoken.

Goldfarb returns to MTC following the success of Sarah, Sarah, which played at New York City Center in 2004. Buntrock gained notoriety for the acclaimed revival of Sunday in the Park with George, for which he received Tony, Olivier and Drama Desk Award nominations for Best Director.  New York City Center – Stage I is located in Manhattan at 131 West 55th Street.
