Alan Ayckbourn's Bedroom Farce bounces into San Diego's Old Globe Theatre April 8-May 9. Previews began April 3. Old Globe associate artist Joseph Hardy (Paramour) directs. A Broadway and West End hit, Bedroom Farce is a British comedy on the self-centered suffering of married couple Trevor and Susannah as their marital troubles disrupt the lives and love of three other couples. Other Ayckbourn plays are Mr. A's Amazing Maze Plays, Intimate Exchanges, The Norman Conquests, Season's Greetings and Taking Steps.
Three Farce actors are returnees to the Old Globe: Tim Donoghue (Nick), associate artist Richard Easton (Ernest) and Patricia Fraser (Delia). Donoghue, who most recently played Henry Kissinger in the Old Globe's Nixon's Nixon, has also appeared there in Wonderful Tennessee, The White Rose, Love's Labour's Lost, Coriolanus and The Boiler Room.
Easton has performed in over 25 Old Globe productions including, most recently, Albee's Men, Romeo and Juliet, As You Like It, Dracula and Macbeth. Fraser was in the Old Globe's Hedda Gabler.
Also in the cast are Charlotte Booker (Susannah), Genevieve Elam (Kate), Tom Fitzsimmons (Trevor), Chris Hietikko (Malcolm) and Carol Linnea Johnson (Jan).
Director Hardy, a Tony winner for Child's Play, staged Woody Allen's Play It Again, Sam, Romantic Comedy and Gigi on Broadway. He next plans to direct a French stage adaptation of Woody Allen's September.
The design team for Bedroom Farce includes James Joy (sets), Michael Gilliam (lighting) and Jeff Ladman (sound). D. Adams is the stage manager.
