Classic Arts News San Francisco Opera Offers Open-Air Simulcast of Rigoletto at Stanford University San Francisco Opera announced today that it has added a second location for its live open-air simulcast of Verdi's Rigoletto on Friday, October 6.
The performance — starring Paolo Gavanelli in the title role, Mary Dunleavy as Gilda and Giuseppe Gipali as the Duke of Mantua, directed by Harry Silverstein and conducted by Stephen Lord — will be transmitted directly from the War Memorial Opera House to large screens in two locations: Civic Center Plaza in downtown San Francisco (as previously announced) and the Frost Amphitheater at Stanford University near Palo Alto. Admission is free of charge.

This will be SF Opera's second free real-time simulcast, and the first given outside the city of San Francisco. Last year's outdoor showing of Puccini's Madama Butterfly, on the opening night of the company's 2006 summer season (May 27), was seen by an estimated 8,000 people.
