Classic Arts News San Francisco Opera's Schwabacher Recital Series Opens January 15 Mezzo-soprano Jill Grove opens the 24th season of the San Francisco Opera Center's Schwabacher Debut Recital series January 15.
Grove will perform works including Haydn's Arianna a Naxos, Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder, de Falla's Siete Canciones Populares Espaê±olas, and Barber's Three Poems of James Joyce, Op. 10. The concert will take place at Temple Emanu-El's Martin Meyer Sanctuary in San Francisco. Her accompanist will be John Churchwell.

Grove is a graduate of the SFO's Merola training program and winner of the 2003 ARIA award for promising American opera singers. This season she performs as Margret in The Metropolitan Opera's Wozzeck, and was recently chosen to stand in for Lorraine Hunt Lieberson in Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and James Levine at Boston's Symphony Hall.

The annual Schwabacher Debut Recital Series presents young singers in an intimate setting. Susan Graham, Anna Netrebko, Deborah Voigt, and Thomas Hampson are among those who have participated.

This year's performers include soprano Ailyn P_rez, soprano Elza van den Heever, soprano Melody Moore, and tenor Matthew O'Neill. Steven Blier, the accompanist and founder of the New York Festival of Song, will appear on April 23.
