News San Fran's New Conservatory Asks Who's Afraid...? Dec. 11-Jan. 22 In the late sixties, a certain theatrical rumor was born. Playwright Michael Kearns imagines four gay men in a Los Angeles Equity waiver company who decide to go against Albee's words and stage the play themselves in Who's Afraid of Edward Albee?, running Dec. 11-Jan. 22 at the New Conservatory Theatre Center. NCTC resident director Arturo Catricala (The Lisbon Traviata, Like a Vampire) directs.

Who's Afraid of Edward Albee? premiered in June 1999 at Los Angeles' Glaxa Studios. Actor-director Kearns is known for his solo pieces intimacies, more intimacies, Rock and Tell-Tale Kisses, his direction of Jerker and for his Drama-Logue winning star turn in the title role of Charles Ludlam's Camille.

Tickets are $22-$13 and available by calling the box office at (415) 861-8972. The New Conservatory Theatre Center is located at 25 Van Ness Avenue near Market.

Who's Afraid of Edward Albee? is the second show in NCTC's Millennium Pride Series of gay-themed plays. Upcoming are Love! Valor! Compassion! (Jan. 12-March 4), the West Coast premiere of Message to Michael (March 15 - May 6) and Torch Song Trilogy (May 24 - July 15). -- By Christine Ehren
