With a script by Reg E. Gaines, who wrote the poetic narration for Bring In `Da Noise/Bring In `Da Funk, Hoopz will tell the true story of the basketball wizards who helped break the color barrier in professional sports.

Disney theatrical head Thomas Schumacher told Newsday the show was in "the earliest stages of development." Davis told Playbill On-Line the show would probably start out in New York, but there was no projected schedule for a workshop or production. She also said that Glover's Downtown is preparing a brief tour this fall.

Glover won the 1996 Tony Award for Best Choreography for his rap, tap and soul revue, Noise/Funk, though he first came to Broadway's attention in The Tap Dance Kid. Fifty years after they were formed, the Globetrotters still tour, mixing clowning and trick shots with exceptional hoop skills.
