Classic Arts News Scottish Ballet and Royal Ballet Lead Nominations for U.K.'s National Dance Awards The finalists for the U.K's 2005 National Dance Awards were announced on November 7.
The nominees for best male dancer are Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's Clifton Brown, Royal Danish Ballet's Thomas Lund, and Royal Ballet's Ivan Putrov. Short-listed for best female dancer are Royal Ballet's Marianela Nunez, Scottish Ballet's Eve Mutso, and St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre's Irina Kolesnikova.

Scottish Ballet was also recognized in the outstanding classical repertoire category, along with the Royal Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet.

In the outstanding modern repertoire category, the nominees are Akram Khan Dance Company, Henri Oguike Dance Company, and Rambert Dance Company.

Dancer and choreographer Akram Khan was also nominated for outstanding male modern artist and best modern choreography. He won the outstanding-newcomer prize at the first National Dance Awards in 1999, the awards' first year.

The awards, which are given to artists who have performed or worked in the U.K. over the last year, will be presented at a ceremony at the Royal Opera House on January 16, 2006.
