The newly-named theatre also announced its 2014-15 season, which will feature Conor McPherson's ghost story Shining City as well as the world premiere of The White Road, Karen Tarjan's journey of dangerous travel.
"As we mark our 20th season as part of the Chicago theatre landscape, Seanachaí Theatre Company is officially changing its name to Irish Theatre of Chicago," ITC co-artistic directors Michael Grant and Ira Amyx said in a statement. "Changing the name has been under serious consideration for the last several years, and after meetings with our ensemble members and our board of directors, the new name was selected and the decision was made to make it official at the start of this our 2014-15 season. While our name is changing, our mission remains the same, and Seanachaí (gaelic for ‘storyteller') is still at the heart of what we do. It is our hope that our new name and logo will support our future plans and make it easier for our current and future patrons to find and follow us in an increasingly diverse and complex digital age."
The season-at-a-glance follows.
By Conor McPherson
Directed by Jeff Christian
Nov. 26-Jan. 4, 2015
The Den Theatre
Featuring Brad Armacost, Coburn Goss, Shane Kenyon and Carolyn Kruse "Two Dublin men wrestle the living and the dead in this contemporary ghost story by the incomparable Conor McPherson, author of last season's runaway hit The Seafarer. Ian, an ex-priest turned therapist takes on his first patient, John, a man who claims to have seen the ghost of his recently deceased wife. What follows is a haunting and suspenseful tale of what it means to lose faith - in God, in relationships and in one's self."
The White Road
By Karen Tarjan
Directed by Robert Kauzlaric
April 30-June 13
The Den Theatre
"The White Road is the story of Ernest Shackleton's ill-fated attempt to cross Antarctica from sea to sea via the South Pole. The crew is forced to abandon their ship, The Endurance, having been crushed by pack ice. They have one path ahead — The White Road. Join us for an incredible story of survival, under near impossible conditions, and a display of the strength of the human spirit when all hope appears lost."
