Our programs empower young people to make new discoveries about themselves and the world around them, and I'm constantly reminded of how aligned our values are with the ones of our community."

SCT managing director Mary Ann Ehlshlager added, "We're all very excited about the upcoming 40th Season and for the chance to do what we do best - make storytelling come alive on stage and in classrooms. Next season's lineup includes SCT's hallmark strengths in puppetry, music, new play development and in the curricular ties that make the arts such a vital tool in any classroom."

Adapted from the story by Rudyard Kipling

Eve Alvord Theatre

"Rudyard Kipling's classic tale comes alive in this funny, colorful adaptation by prize-winning playwright Y York. This sweet story of friendship and cooperation takes place in an exotic Indian garden and tells the charming tale of an unusual friendship between an innocent baby mongoose (the hero, Rikki), a vain and bossy bird, and a dear but befuddled muskrat. Through the shared danger of facing Nag, the sneaky cobra, these unlikely comrades find that they are smarter, braver and more resourceful together, and that a strong home makes room for everyone."

Dick Whittington & His Cat
World premiere
By Jeff Church

Original music by Richard Gray and Jeff Church

Charlotte Martin Theatre

Nov. 13-Dec. 1
"SCT presents Dick Whittington and His Cat, a new musical version of the beloved English story. With all the traditional charm of old London at the holidays, Dick Whittington's adventurous story begins with Dick’s poor beginnings as an orphan who comes to the big city in hope of finding the streets paved with gold. From there he finds his way in the world, buoyed by the kindness of others and an alliance with a most remarkable cat. Together, they overcome many a rat, making their way through foreign lands, past pirates and back home to good fortune and a better life." Mwindo
World premiere
By Cheryl West

Charlotte Martin Theatre

Jan. 22-Feb. 15, 2015
Recommended for ages 9 and up
"The world premiere of Mwindo is an epic central African tale passed on for centuries featuring heroic beings and fantastical creatures. Mwindo, born as a full-sized boy, is an unwitting threat to his father, a Chief whose heart is corrupted with greed and hatred for the son who will grow to take his place. Mwindo journeys on a quest to battle enemies and overcome obstacles, to triumph and forgive, to bring his people compassion and the richness of joy. With plenty of action and adventure, music and dance, Mwindo teaches us what it’s like to search for and find one's warrior spirit."

Robin Hood
By Greg Banks

Charlotte Martin Theatre

April 16-May 17, 2015
Recommended for ages 8 and up
"Back by popular demand, Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men once again raise a ruckus on SCT's stage, swashbuckling their way into our hearts as they do all the wrong things for the right reasons. As Robin Hood fights for justice, dodges the Sheriff of Nottingham, and woos Maid Marian, the stage comes alive with swordfights and archery, word play and physical comedy. Robin Hood is one of the most popular shows SCT has ever produced, and no wonder – it's a glorious romantic adventure with charm and wit that never fails to rouse our hearts in the age-old battle of good versus evil."

With the production of over 235 plays, 113 of which were world premieres, SCT has entertained, inspired and educated over 4 million children. For more information, call (206) 441-3322 or visit SCT.org.
