Classic Arts News Seattle Symphony Posts Surplus The Seattle Symphony reported a $303,000 surplus for the 2003-04 season at its annual meeting yesterday, the Seattle Times reports. Ticket revenue rose 8 percent over the previous season.
The orchestra still needs to boost its fundraising in order to eliminate an accumulated $858,000 debt and pay for future salary obligations, executive director Paul Meecham said.

The SSO also announced that it would launch a festival of 20th- and 21st-century American music starting in May 2005 and continuing during the 2005-06 season, and that WMFT radio of Chicago would broadcast archived live recordings of the SSO this fall over its 150-station network.
