Mark Waldrop will direct and choreograph the production, which begins Oct. 19 and opens Oct. 25 at the Washington stage. The run is scheduled through Nov. 10.
The musical, inspired by the Brothers Grimm stories, finds many of the familiar characters crossing paths, including Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella and more. Stephen Sondheim provides the score with a book by James Lapine.
Filling the woods will be Lisa Estridge (The Buddy Holly Story, Company) as the Witch, Leslie Law (Sweeney Todd, The Sound of Music) as the Baker's Wife, Bob De Dea (The Most Happy Fella) as the Baker, Allen Fitzpatrick (The Sweet Smell of Success, Sweeney Todd) as the Narrator, Eric Ankrim (Miss Saigon, Rocky Horror Show) as Jack, Eric Brotherson as Jack's cow Milky White, Elizabeth Arnold (The Sound of Music) as Jack's Mother, Billie Wildrick (Company, Wonderful Town) as Cinderella, Michael Hunsaker (Listen To My Heart) as the Wolf/Cinderella's Prince, Cheryl Massey-Peters (My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music) as Cinderella's Mother/the Giant/Granny, Carol Swarbrick (White Christmas, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) as Cinderella's Stepmother, Krista Severid and Darla Cardwell as Cinderella's Stepsisters, Allen Galli (West Side Story, Anything Goes) as Cinderella's Father, Anne Eisendrath as Rapunzel, Logan Benedict as Rapunzel's Prince, Stephanie Miller as Snow White, Laura Thornquist as Sleeping Beauty and 10-year-old newcomer Ireland Woods as Little Red Riding Hood.
The design team includes Todd Edward Ivins (set), Tom Sturge (lighting), Lynda Salsbury (costumes) and Mary Pyanowski (hair/make-up). Ian Eisendrath (Company, Sweeney Todd) serves as conductor and musical director.
Director-choreographer Waldrop has previously collaborated with 5th Avenue on Gypsy starring Judy Kaye. Other credits include Broadway's Bea Arthur, Just Between Friends as well as Off-Broadway's When Pigs Fly, My Deah, Game Show, Pete 'n' Keely, Listen to My Heart and Whatnot. The season at 5th Ave. continues with Whistle Down The Wind (Nov. 13-Dec. 2), Jersey Boys (Dec. 5-Jan. 12, 2008), Mame (Feb. 9-March 2, 2008) and Cabaret (March 25-April 13, 2008).
