Ford's ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore will begin performances Oct. 23 for a run through Dec. 7. It is described as a tale of incestuous lust and obsessive revenge. Ford's The Broken Heart, described as another searching exploration of the darkest recesses of the human psyche, will begin performances March 12, 2015, for a run through April 18.
Completing a trio of classic Jacobean tragedies, Middleton's The Changeling, which is described as a ferocious tale of madness and passion, will begin performances Jan 15, 2015, for a run through March 1.
Last season's productions of The Knight of the Burning Pestle and Shakespeare's Globe and the Royal Opera's collaboration on L'Ormindo will both be revived. Pestle, which will again star Pauline McLynn as the Citizen's Wife, will begin performances Dec. 11 for a run through Jan. 11. L'Ormindo will begin performances Feb. 3 for a run through March 5.
The Playhouse will also see the world premiere of Farinelli and the King, Claire van Kampen's new play with music, beginning performances Feb. 11 for a run through March 7. Set in eighteen-century Spain and Italy, it tells the true story of Farinelli, the world’s most famous castrato, and his decision to trade fame and fortune for a live of servitude at the court of King Philip V.
Prior to the beginning of the season in October, the theatre will host Derek Walcott's new stage adaptation of his 1990 poem Omeros, beginning performances May 31 for a run through Jjune 9, starring Joseph Marcell. Thomas Tallis, a specially commissioned piece about the life and work of the Tudor composer, written by Jessica Swale and directed by Adele Thomas, will begin performances July 27 for a run through Aug. 10. It will be performed by members of choral ensemble The Sixteen. Finally, Dominic Dromgoole's production of Julius Caesar, which begins performances in Shakespeare's Globe June 20 for a run through Oct. 11, will play in the Playhouse for one candelit performance on July 14.
