As part of its 35th anniversary season, Second Stage Theatre presents the 8 PM evening, which features special guests Amy Brenneman, Judy Gold, Jessica Hecht, Tonya Pinkins, Annabella Sciorra, Alice Ripley, Gina Gershon, Henry Alford, Ilana Levine and Saundra Santiago.

Here's how the evening is billed: "Is 50 the new 40 or is 50 just still 50? In this wickedly funny new evening, I See You Made an Effort, actress and writer Annabelle Gurwitch explores the hazards of turning 50, including outsourcing your endocrine system and falling in lust at the Genius bar. Adapted from her upcoming book, I See You Made an Effort will feature Gurwitch and special guests Amy Brenneman, Judy Gold, Jessica Hecht, Tonya Pinkins, and Annabella Sciorra turning an unflinching and hilarious eye towards the myriad of issues women can expect to encounter in their middle years. From navigating the extensive anti-aging offerings in the department store beauty counter to negotiating the ins-and-outs of acceptable behavior with a teenage son, I See You Made an Effort is the ultimate coming-of-middle-age story and a must-see for women everywhere."

The benefit event kicks off a ten-city tour with author talks and performances scheduled in Chicago (with Julia Sweeney), Los Angeles (with Jane Kaczmarek) and Washington, D.C. (with Barbara Ehrenreich), among others.

Gurwitch appeared in Second Stage Theatre's 20th anniversary production of Wendy Wasserstein's Uncommon Women and Others and returned to Second Stage with Fired! in 2004, which went on to become an acclaimed documentary and Showtime Comedy Special.

Other anniversary events at Second Stage will include a free Reading Series — For Writers Under 35, curated by Leslye Headland; and Adaptation, an immersive theatre piece created by director Niegel Smith that will take place on the Upper West Side of New York City.  Additionally, Second Stage Theatre will present private readings of new works and celebrated plays curated by its community of artists. Some of these events include a reading of Adam Bock's new play, The Colby Sisters of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, directed by Trip Cullman; a reading of a new work by Murder for Two authors Joe Kinosian and Kellen Blair; a private workshop of a new musical, A Girl Called Vincent, written by Carmel Dean and directed by Dick Scanlan; and a reading of Jonathan Marc Sherman's play, Women and Wallace, directed by Thomas Kail.
