News See Daphne Rubin-Vega Channel Her Inner Sweeney Todd in Empanada Loca The Labyrinth Theater Company kicks off its 2015-16 season Sept. 30 with the world premiere of Aaron Mark’s one-woman show Empanada Loca, starring Tony nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent).

Empanada Loca, which was written by Mark specifically for Rubin-Vega, is inspired by the legend of murderous barber Sweeney Todd. Rubin-Vega, whose other Broadway credits include A Streetcar Named Desire, Les Misérables and Anna in the Tropics, plays Dolores, a woman living deep under Manhattan in an abandoned subway tunnel. Dolores lives by one rule only: eat or be eaten.

Empanada Loca is the second in a trilogy of solo plays written by Mark, the first being Another Medea, which featured Tony nominee Tom Hewitt.  Here's a look at the production:
