La Jolla Playhouse has released a video of Tony nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega performing “Over My Shoulder” from Quiara Alegría Hudes and Erin McKeown’s new musical Miss You Like Hell, set to debut at the Californian theatre this month.

Miss You Like Hell features a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner Hudes and music by singer/songwriter McKeown. With direction by Lear deBessonet (The Odyssey) and choreography by Danny Mefford (Fun Home), performances are set to begin October 25 and run through December 4 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. The new work is billed as a “vibrant and affecting” musical about family, full of joy, love and frustration.

“When a free-spirited mother convinces her whip-smart teenage daughter to join her on a drive across the country, neither can imagine where it will take them,“ read production notes for Miss You Like Hell. “Chance encounters with a motley crew of characters along the way brings them closer to understanding what sets them apart—and what connects them forever.“

The creative team includes Julie McBride, music director; Donyale Werle, scenic designer; Emilio Sosa, costume designer; Tyler Micoleau, lighting designer; Dan Moses Schreier, sound designer; Gabriel Greene, dramaturg; Tara Rubin Casting; and Evangeline Rose Whitlock, stage manager.
