Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' comedic drama is playing a 13-week limited engagement at the Belasco following an earlier run at the Hayes.

Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' Appropriate, which began its transfer run at Broadway's Belasco Theatre March 25, officially opened its transfer April 10 after completing an earlier engagement at the Hayes Theater. The 13-week engagement will continue through June 23. 

Almost all of the original cast has continued with the transfer, including Sarah Paulson, Corey Stoll, Michael Esper, Natalie Gold, Graham Campbell, Alyssa Emily Marvin, Lincoln Cohen, and Everett SobersElla Beatty succeeds original star Elle Fanning in the role of River for the transfer engagement.

Photos: Appropriate at Broadway's Belasco Theatre

Appropriate opened December 18, 2023, at the Hayes after beginning previews November 29. The production transferred theatres because Mother Play by Paula Vogel was moving into the Hayes. The production marks Jacobs-Jenkins' Broadway playwriting debut, following a credit in 2022 for contributing additional material to Lincoln Center Theater's revival of Thornton Wilder's The Skin of Our Teeth. The work centers on a white family who, while closing out the estate of their late father, discover some disturbing artifacts that force them to confront their family's past. The play was previously produced in 2014 Off-Broadway at Signature Theatre.

The Broadway run features scenic design by dots, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Jane Cox, and sound design by Will Pickens and Bray Poor. The production's fight director is UnkleDave's Fight House, the vocal coach is Kate Wilson, and the production stage manager is Barclay Stiff. Casting is by Jim Carnahan. General management is by 101 Productions, Ltd.
