Tony nominee Dominique Morisseau's Confederates officially opened March 27 at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center. The play, a production of Signature Theatre, is scheduled to run through April 10. Previews began March 8.
The play dives into institutional racism through the parallel experiences of two women living more than a century apart: Sara, an enslaved rebel turned Union spy, and Sandra, a tenured professor in a modern-day private university.
Confederates stars Kristolyn Lloyd (Dear Evan Hansen) as Sara and Michelle Wilson (The House That Will Not Stand) as Sandra, with Elijah Jones (Richard II), Andrea Patterson (cullud wattah), and Kenzie Ross (Blood at the Root).
