"See the Light" Again! Alan Menken Will Score an Animated TV Adaptation of Disney's "Tangled" | Playbill

News "See the Light" Again! Alan Menken Will Score an Animated TV Adaptation of Disney's "Tangled" Prolific composer Alan Menken is writing the score to a new animated TV adaptation of the Disney film "Tangled," based on the Grimm fairytale "Rapunzel," Time magazine reports.

Mandy Moore will again voice the princess whose long locks launch her into a series of adventures, and Zachary Levi (First Date) will reprise his role as her unlikely swain. The TV version, which will be set in time between the original film and its animated short sequel, "Tangled Ever After," is scheduled to debut in 2017.

No word yet on whether Broadway star Donna Murphy will repeat the role of the witch, which she created in the 2010 original.

Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater are also writing new songs for a screen-to-stage adaptation of Tangled, which is set to premiere aboard the Disney Magic cruise ship's voyage to the Bahamas on Nov. 11.

Entertainment Weekly reports that they will write three new songs to add to the existing film score.

The songwriting team is responsible for Sister Act, Leap of Faith, "Home on the Range" and new songs for the Broadway adaptation of Menken and Howard Ashman's The Little Mermaid. With others, Menken wrote Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Newsies, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Little Shop of Horrors, "Pocahontas," and other shows and movies.

Director Gordon Greenberg will oversee the Tangled production team that includes choreographer Connor Gallagher, puppet designer Michael Curry, scenic designer Bradley Kaye and costume designer Paloma Young.
