War Paint, the new musical starring Tony Award winners Patti LuPone (Evita, Gypsy) and Christine Ebersole (42nd Street, Grey Gardens) as cosmetic titans Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden, respectively, will begin Broadway previews March 7, prior to an official opening April 6 at the Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street).
War Paint features music by Scott Frankel, lyrics by Michael Korie, and a book by Doug Wright. It is directed by Michael Greif. The same team collaborated on Grey Gardens, the acclaimed Broadway musical based on the iconic Maysles brothers documentary.
The new musical is inspired by the book War Paint, by Lindy Woodhead, and the documentary film The Powder & the Glory, by Ann Carol Grossman and Arnie Reisman.
