Time magazine has named Hamilton creator/star Lin-Manuel Miranda one of its 100 Most Influential People, alongside captains of politics, business and the arts. He was not grouped among Artists on the list, but among Pioneers.
Also on Time’s list of 100 Most Influential: Three-time Tony Award winning actor Mark Rylance, singer and onetime Broadway actress Ariana Grande, actress Charlize Theron, actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, actress Melissa McCarthy, singer Adele, actor Leonardo DiCaprio and singer Nicki Minaj.
The honor caps a week in which Miranda won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and was nominated multiple times in the Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Awards.
J.J. Abrams, director of the recent film Star Wars: The Force Awakens wrote an appreciation of Miranda, in which he said, “He has redefined the musical and made us see anew the origins of the remarkable experiment called democracy.”
