Classic Arts News Seiji Ozawa Returns to Boston Symphony Podium at Tanglewood Tonight Seiji Ozawa returns to the Boston Symphony podium for his first full concert since he stepped down as the orchestra's music director in 2002. The performance, at 8:30 pm in the Koussevitzky Music Shed at the Tanglewood Festival's campus in Lenox, Massachusetts, will be of Mahler's Second Symphony, the "Resurrection." Joining the orchestra and Ozawa will be soprano Heidi Grant Murphy, contralto Nathalie Stutzmann and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

Ozawa's 29-year tenure as the BSO's Music Director was the longest in the orchestra's history; one of Tanglewood's venues, Ozawa Hall, is named for him. Now BSO Music Director Laureate, Ozawa is currently music director of the Vienna State Opera and founder/artistic director of the Saito Kinen Festival in the Japanese mountain resort of Matsumoto.
